By India Today Auto Desk: For the car companies in India, FY23 was a remarkable year. As many as 3,889,545 units (highest-ever) of passenger vehicles were sold during the fiscal. As usual, Maruti Suzuki India led the domestic volumes chart, followed by Hyundai Motor India and Tata Motors. The original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) clocked handsome volumes in March as well.
Among the 10 best-selling cars during the month were seven models from Maruti, two from Tata and one from Hyundai. Also, five of the 10 cars were sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
Swift leads the pack
The Maruti Suzuki Swift was the largest-selling car in March, clocking sales of 17,559 units. It was very closely followed by the Maruti Suzuki WagonR at 17,305 units.
Brezza is the top-selling SUV
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza was the best-selling SUV during the month at 16,227 units, ahead of the likes of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta, Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Then came the Maruti Suzuki Baleno at 16,168 units.
Nexon and Creta arrive
Even though the Nexon was behind the Brezza, it garnered incredible sales of 14,769 units in March. The Creta continued its dominance in the mid-size SUV segment with sales of 14,026 units during the month.
Dzire is the lone sedan
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued to keep the sedan flag in the 10 best-selling cars space as it notched up sales of 13,394 units. The Maruti Suzuki Eeco did something similar for the vans space as it garnered sales of 11,995 units.
Punch and Grand Vitara remaining SUVs
The Punch carried on with its strong run and clocked sales of 10,894 units. The Grand Vitara entered the top 10 for the first time, even crossing the 10,000 units mark in a month at 10,045 units.
